EA Confirms Development Continues on New Lord of the Rings Game Despite Cancellation of Battlefield Mobile and Apex Mobile

Heroes of Middle-earth” Lord of the Rings Game is still on track despite cancellation of mobile games by EA

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that its upcoming mobile game, “Heroes of Middle-earth”, is still in development. The confirmation came after the cancellation of “Apex Legends Mobile” and “Battlefield Mobile” by the company. During an earnings call, EA’s CEO, Laura Miele, stated that the development team at EA Capital Games continues to work on the game, which was soft-launched in select territories in July 2022 and is expected to release fully in 2023.

“Heroes of Middle-earth” is a new fantasy game set in the Lord of the Rings universe, where players bring famous Middle-earth characters to fight for good or evil over a new ring that has the power to change history. On the other hand, EA retired “Apex Legends Mobile” due to its content pipeline falling short of the company’s standards, while “Battlefield Mobile” was discontinued after its soft-launch period.

Other Lord of the Rings video game projects include “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum”, “Return to Moria”, and a new title from Weta and Take-Two’s indie games division. “Lord of the Rings Online” by Standing Stone is also continuously being updated and supported, with ambitious plans for 2023 including a new expansion.

NASCAR Imposes Penalty on Wall-Riding Technique Inspired by Video Games

NASCAR is taking action to prevent the use of a driving technique popularized by video games.

In a race in 2022, driver Ross Chastain used the “wall-ride” technique, which he learned from playing an old NASCAR video game, to zoom past other drivers and finish fourth, qualifying for the Championship Finals. NASCAR has now penalized the technique, stating that it poses a safety risk.

Going forward, any attempt at an “unsafe maneuver” will result in a time penalty. According to a NASCAR executive, any act that compromises the safety of competitors, officials, or spectators will be taken seriously and penalized. The move was considered a success, but it was also criticized as a “bad look” by other racers.

Netflix Announces New Guidelines for Password Sharing, Requiring Check-In Every 31 Days

Netflix is cracking down on password-sharing by adding seven questions about its new policy to its Help Center FAQ.

The policy states that accounts can only be shared within a single household and users will have to connect to their home Wi-Fi once every 31 days to watch content. Signing into Netflix outside of your home may lead to the device in use being blocked, though a workaround is possible. People who are on the go and want to sit still with their Netflix account may request a temporary code from the service when signing in–which will grant them access for seven consecutive days.

The number of devices that can access a Netflix account at once depends on the subscription tier:

  • Basic with ads ($6.99/month) allows 1 device
  • Basic ($9.99/month) allows 1 device
  • Standard ($15.49/month) allows 2 devices
  • Premium ($19.99/month) allows 4 devices.

Netflix started charging $3 for outside home access last year. The company is looking for a “thoughtful experimentation” solution, according to its co-CEO Greg Peters.

It’s Shocking But True – Apex Legends Mobile To Cease Operations in 90 Days

Electronic Arts has announced the closure of its popular mobile game, Apex Legends Mobile, in 90 days. The game had a strong start after its launch, earning $5 million in its first week and winning awards at the App Store and Google Play’s Best of 2022. However, according to the publisher, the game’s content pipeline failed to meet the quality, quantity, and cadence standards.

Starting today, all real-money in-app purchases will be removed, and the game will be taken down from app stores. Players can still spend their in-game currency until the game is shut down on May 1. No refunds will be given, and all in-game content will no longer be available.

The developer confirmed that this closure has no impact on the PC and console version of Apex Legends, which remains strong. The future of mobile-exclusive characters like Fade and Rhapsody remains unknown, and it’s unclear if Season 4 will launch.

EA also announced that the development of Battlefield Mobile has been canceled. The developer expressed excitement about mobile gaming as a platform and stated that “Respawn and the Apex Legends team look forward to new opportunities to serve players there in the future.”

Avatar: The Way of Water Is Now The Fourth-Highest-Grossing Film of All Time Making $2.075 Billion Globally

The Avatar sequel continues to make huge waves and dominate the box office since its release on 16 December 2022 and now holds the title for the fourth highest-grossing film of all-time.

It has reportedly surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens massive $2.071 Billion box office total from 2015 and made $2.075 Billion globally. This feat arrives on the heels of becoming just the sixth movie to gross $2B globally at the box office, as well as blazing past the MCU’s second-highest-grossing film in Avengers: Infinity War just a couple days ago.

Director James Cameron has more than one reason to celebrate as he is now the proud director of three of the top four movies globally of all-time: Avatar, Titanic, and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Director James Cameron can finally breathe a sigh of relief as he notably quoted that his long-awaited Avatar sequel would “…have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history,” Cameron said about turning a profit on the movie. “That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”

So he has more reasons to smile and positively look forward to the remaining parts of the franchise.
