Tales of Symphonia Remastered Receives Long-Awaited Patch, but Fans Express Dissatisfaction

Bandai Namco has announced the forthcoming release of Patch 1.2 for Tales of Symphonia Remastered on May 18, aiming to address various quality-of-life concerns reported by players since its February launch. Despite the upcoming update, fans continue to express their dissatisfaction with the game.

According to the recently released patch notes on the company’s website, the update will tackle significant processing slowdowns experienced in the sandstorm area of “Triet” and resolve instances of game freezes following certain boss battles. Additionally, it will address screen blackouts and inoperability problems while navigating world maps and towns, along with interrupted background music when transitioning to the world map after a battle. Minor bug fixes are also included.

Unfortunately, these updates fall short of appeasing players, particularly those who own the Nintendo Switch version of Tales of Symphonia Remastered. On a Tales subreddit, numerous fans voiced their grievances, describing the Switch version as a flawed port of the original GameCube release plagued by severe performance issues, frequent crashes, long loading times, and framerate drops.

One user even emphasized the disparity, stating, “The battle system runs at the same speed as the original GameCube version, and the character responsiveness is also the same. Any perceived difference in controls or responsiveness is purely subjective. The Switch version lacks the same framerate stability as other versions, and the drops are noticeable.”

To compound the frustration, the upcoming patch fails to address major complaints surrounding frame-rate problems, missing text, transparency issues, and more.

Tales of Symphonia, initially released for GameCube in 2004, holds a special place in the hearts of many players. However, it has been plagued by inconsistent ports across platforms such as PS2, PS3, and now the Switch. The effectiveness of the forthcoming patch remains to be seen as fans eagerly await its release on Thursday.
