Lego has recently revealed exciting news for fans of the popular Donkey Kong franchise – four new expansion sets inspired by the game are coming to the Lego Super Mario range this August! This follows an earlier teaser that hinted at the Lego treatment of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Cranky Kong, and Funky Kong, and now Lego has confirmed that three of these characters will receive their own sets.
One of the sets is Donkey Kong’s Tree House Expansion Set, which comes with 555 pieces and is priced at £57.99/€64.99/$59.99 USD. This set includes a Lego Donkey Kong figure, his iconic tree house, palm trees, a buildable TV, radio, and secret compartment, and a Cranky Kong figure. It also features interactions with other Lego Super Mario range sets, where Lego Mario, Luigi, and Peach can all ride Donkey Kong and feed him bananas. The hammock can also be used for a nap, the conga drums can be played, and digital coins can be earned by visiting Cranky Kong.
The Diddy Kong’s Mine Cart Ride Expansion Set is a more elaborate set with 1,157 pieces and is priced at £94.99/€104.99/$109.99. It includes four figures – Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, a Snaggles, and Mole Miner – and comes with jungle scenery, an aeroplane, mine track pieces, and a rideable cart for Lego Mario and friends. The aeroplane shop in this set allows players to get special reactions by buying balloons and ‘flying’ the plane, there is also an ‘explodable’ rock that reveals bananas, a ‘broken’ track section to fix, a flippable Snaggles, and a Mole Miner to battle.
Dixie Kong’s Jungle Jam Expansion Set is priced at £20.99/€26.99/$26.99 and comes with 174 pieces. The set features a buildable stage with rotating pieces and musical sounds when used with Lego Mario, Luigi, or Peach, jungle scenery, equipment, and musical instruments such as a guitar, amplifier, microphone, and bongos. It also includes Dixie Kong and Squawks figures.
Lastly, the Rambi the Rhino Expansion Set is priced at £8.99/€9.99/$10.99 and comes with 106 pieces. It features an interactive Rambi figure that plays sounds when walking, smashing into the included rocks, and other activities.
